Modern life has left a mark in Sweden and many of the girls here don’t do much to help their amazing genes. I’m talking about eating hearty meals, plenty of sugars and fat, plenty of alcohol too….
All these do add up and Sweden is starting to show signs of the same problem that the entire world has… but the good thing about the modern world is that different people prefer different body types, and you’ll get plenty of those in Sweden.
Because we also have the “classic” women who actively maintain an incredibly healthy lifestyle. In many casess, outdoor activities are integrated into daily routines here.
But no matter what their approach is, instead of stressing over artificial beauty standards, they prioritize wellness and natural beauty, no matter the form or shape it comes in.
Androgynous Fashion, Bald Heads And Other Swedish Wonders
Let me enlighten you on a staple of Scandinavian fashion. Timberland shoes.
Yes, they are not the most attractive shoe on a girl, especially if you are used to Eastern European gals with their 6-inch heels and almost-magical ability to not break their ankles even when they walk on ice.
But Swedish girls don’t roll the girly way.
Winter is seriously cold here, so don’t expect them to show more regard for impressing you than they do for not getting hypothermia. It is all about warmth and comfort – and it makes sense!
Still, it’s not as bad as Scandinavian street style blogs make it out to be.
People there are selected for their fun and quirky style choices, not because they are representative of Swedish women as a whole.
Yes, they are not as bothered with looks as their other Western counterparts. There are some who shave their heads – either the side shave that was popular a couple of years ago, or the bottom part. Some shave it all off.
It is pretty much the ex-beauty queen attitude. They believe they are naturally pretty and don’t try to look their best (even if the whole natural beauty thing is no longer working for them). Or, they just want to look their best for somebody who appreciates a different style.
But there is an up side to this:
A Swedish Girl Doesn’t Care About Fancy
A common complaint I hear from guys dating abroad is:
She just wants too much!
I don’t have a particularly high opinion of these men. If you are going to date some of the world’s most beautiful women, you have to put out a bit.
And many of these guys are complaining about have to buy a couple of $20 cocktails.
But with Swedish girls, that is not even necessary.
First off, Sweden is a very well-developed and wealthy country. People are almost apologetic for the high standard of living.
There is hardly any difference in the quality of life of rich and ‘poor’. The show-off culture (which, curiously enough, is most prominent in the least wealthy countries) is practically non-existent in Sweden.
This is deeply rooted in the cultural concept of Jantelagen, which is the idea that everyone is equal and nobody should think they are better than anyone else.
Secondly, Swedish women take a much more relaxed and ’empowered’ approach to life, the dating aspect included. They are more than happy to do casual dates and to split the check even at fancier establishments.
In fact, splitting the tab is the name of the game in Sweden, as it is with Danish girls and others in the region. They use an app called Swish for practically everything. It is how everyone in Sweden pays and splits bills instantly.
And if it was her who asked you out (happens more often than you think), it is her treat. Of course, that doesn’t mean you should not offer to pay, it just means your proposition might be declined.
How to Meet Swedish Women & The Art of the Fika Date
Forget about walking up to strangers on the street! Approaching a woman out of nowhere while she is running errands is generally frowned upon in a culture that values personal space and privacy.
Scandinavians are famous for their hygge culture, which is all about creating comfort and adding cosiness into their life. Warm cafés, tiny, intimate bars, and restaurants with twinkle lights are where you spend your free time.
The best way to ask someone out is by inviting them for a Fika. Fika is the Swedish practice of taking a break for coffee and a pastry, and it is the bedrock of their social life. It is the most culturally appropriate way to suggest a low-pressure first date.
Approaching a woman you have briefly chatted with at a social event or coffee shop and asking her for a Fika is as normal as it gets. Just introduce yourself respectfully and you will probably be surprised with her warm reaction. They simply love and appreciate a casual, friendly way of meeting people.
Experiencing the Nightlife
All around the world, friends travel in groups when they go out and Sweden is no different. In many ways, they are actually more closed off to strangers than people in other countries. Walking over and interrupting a group of women at a bar with a cheesy line is not going to work.

Women in Sweden usually go out with mixed groups of friends, so try to strike up a normal, friendly conversation with the men in the group.
First, you will feel much more comfortable. Second, it shows you are sociable and not just zeroing in on someone aggressively. In the worst-case scenario, the person you are interested in might not notice you, but you will have made a new local friend.

Dating apps are very popular in Sweden. While Tinder is still the king of online dating almost everywhere in the world, it has gained a strong hookup app reputation here.
You will notice a lot of foreigners use Tinder, while locals sometimes brush it off. It is fun for meeting locals while you are traveling, and you might get new travel buddies.
However, if you are looking for something more meaningful, you need to be on Bumble or Hinge, or go old-school and try a dating website which works much better than you might expect.
However, Bumble is the popularity winner here. Because of its female-first, egalitarian nature, it aligns perfectly with the Swedish mindset.
Hinge is also excellent for women who are actively looking for a relationship. I find these apps are much better for meeting people who are fun to be with and easier to approach, better than going through the challenge of approaching them directly and better than Tinder.
Ideally, you want to start making connections online a couple of weeks before your trip. This way, when you get there, you have people you are actually excited about meeting.
