I got to know the local rhythm and people really well, and I am ready to tell you from the beginning that Bulgarian girls are fairy-like goddesses that I would simply call “perfect women.”
Despite what some articles might try to suggest, women from Bulgaria (like most Eastern European women) are not perpetual damsels in distress who see any moderately well-off Westerner as their knight in shining armor (or the fool they’re about to scam).
They actually don’t live their entire lives waiting for a richer guy to sweep them off their feet and “save” them from a poor country. No, Bulgarian women are pretty badass, independent and down to earth. You’ll love them even more for that!
Where to meet Bulgarian women?
Even though it’s old school and might seem clunky, trust me when I say it that you will have the best deal of success scouting a traditional, premium (aka paid) dating website. I am talking about real relationship websites, not those adult places.
These come with a plethora of advantages. Not only will you find there are no time-wasters – just ladies who are genuinely looking for a relationship – but you will also have a big advantage over other means of meeting them.
First of all, the competition will be much lower since not all men are willing to pay for a access to meeting beautiful Bulgarians (their loss!).
The fact that you do also sends strong signals their way – it shows that you know what you want and you know how to get it. You can afford this and are no time waster either.

Not only are they genetically blessed with a beautiful complexion, slender figure and striking blue eyes (maybe don’t quote me on that, but I am sure there are many more blue-eyed Bulgarians than any other color), but they were also raised to take good care of what nature gave them.
In the average neighborhood in any city, you will find at least a few gyms and beauty salons and they all have frequent customers among the ladies.
Of course, not all Bulgarian girls are professional bodybuilders and athletes, but in general, they are much fitter than their Western counterparts. This has two consequences for you:
1. You will instantly notice how they take care of themselves…
(…and you are welcome to fawn as much as you like.)
This comes with a potential downside: to get their attention, you will also need a bit of muscle on you. Men in Bulgaria are also well-built and like to take care of themselves, so you’ll have solid competition here.
There is an exaggerated macho look that has been popular among Bulgarian men for years now, but there’s no need to go there to win over a beautiful Bulgarian of your own.
However, they do like to see that you take care of yourself just as much as they do for themselves. You can’t expect to receive without giving anything in return, right?
What is more, Bulgarian women will eat very little and no, it has nothing to do with trying to appear ladylike.
The key to maintaining their enviable shape (other than regular exercise) is small portions.
Bulgarian girls rarely cut out any foods, but they know to enjoy everything in moderation, so don’t be surprised if she turns down that dessert offer.
2. All the focus on cultivating physical beauty, however, comes with the nasty consequence…
…of seeing so many girls with caked-on faces, hair that has suffered hot irons for a few years now and way-too-tight, somewhat tacky outfits.
Natural beauty is not something that seems to be very valued here (which is a shame, because there’s LOTS of it). It’s similar to how Romanian women are, and it’s the same with girls in the area, from Albanians to Ukrainians…
I know it might not be your thing, but still try to respect the effort gals put into themselves. I promise not all Bulgarian women are foundation on foundation on foundation kind of people.
When it comes to style, even those that try not to go overboard will probably look more dressed up than the Western girls you are used to.
They love their high heels (yes, even in winter when the sidewalks are covered with ice and a simple trip to the grocery shop can be a life risk), skinny jeans and plunging necklines.
Bear in mind that even though some girls dress borderline slutty based by some standards, this has 0 correlation to how easy they are. In fact, ladies here seem to be more about teasing, than the actual pleasing.
Direct Talk and Status Checks
Bulgarian women are anything but lazy, entitled hotties, even if the stereotype sometimes portrays them as such. Their dream is not to meet a rich dude who will make all their wishes come true.
In fact, money is more of a status thing for them, meaning that they like the guy to make more than they do because it makes them feel like they dated up, but it’s not anything they insist on.
Case in point, I have dated Bulgarian women when I was a struggling website owner, writing articles for pennies and making significantly less than they did, and it never remotely bothered them.
However, if you are well-off and she is a student on a tight budget, expect to cover the tab. They view this as simple logic. Your bigger budget makes it easier to afford things she cannot.
Bulgarian girls are also very focused on developing themselves and pursuing an independent career, even when married.
There are very few Bulgarian girls that intend to become housewives, so they are driven and value education very highly.
That last one might hurt your image in front of a Bulgarian (not only girls but in general) – if you are not college-educated, there is some stigma, and people might look down on you.
Then again, this depends on the Bulgarians that you hang out with, but is usually true for the type of people foreigners usually meet. Try not to be offended, and I am sorry in advance if you do.
Honesty and humility are two qualities that if missing can be an easy deal breaker for girls here. More than anything they are put off by boastfulness, since they avoid to boast about their successes, too.
Any girl that does tolerate a man, too enamored in himself, will do it because she associates him with money/status.
That’s not the kind of person you want to attract, right?
So stay down-to-earth and don’t brag too much about that new car/promotion/luxury trip that you’ve been on. You can tell her about it and it might impress her, but that’s about it.
Sure, it is impressive to be at one of the best all inclusive resorts in Bulgaria and even better if you take her with you. But it’s not something to “buy” her with, as many might believe is the case.
What It’s Like Dating a Bulgarian
I have already mentioned that women here are quite conservative in terms of what they want. A nice house, a few adorable kids, and a decent husband are probably what most Bulgarian girls see in their future.
They are great at maintaining long-term relationships, but often have issues with short-term open ones, since it’s not the model they are used to.
So should you give up your hopes of smooching a hot Bulgarian, if you are not prepared to propose, yet? Nope, but there are some tips and strategies.
For starters, if you are looking for hookups, hit the clubs, but pick your venues carefully.
Folk clubs playing local chalga music are packed with tight groups of friends and massive, scary-looking bouncers. Locals go to these spots in large packs and stay within their circle. Your chances of meeting women as an outsider are exceptionally slim.
You need clubs playing generic pop or electronic music. These venues attract a friendly, relaxed crowd. You can catch a girl’s attention easily if you are fun, smile, and actually dance instead of creepily staring while sipping scotch in the corner.
Try not to get clingy, a lot of gals like to do casual hookups – usually nothing further than 2nd base – but it does not mean that they will want to grab coffee with you the next day.
Wh-wha-what? Girls that want relationships are into casual hookups without a date to follow?
It doesn’t make much sense to me either, but it is what it is. My personal explanation is that even if Bulgarian ladies like the thrill of a hookup, they might not like you as much the next morning, so they turn from seductress to flake in no time.
Speaking of flaking, yes, they do it and no, they won’t apologize for that. With the risk of sounding a bit like that infamous Gretchen Weiners (‘I can’t help it that I’m popular.’), Bulgarian girls do get a lot of offers and some of those offers are from downright creepy people. So they keep their guard up and more often than not act a bit… bitchy.

This is where having thick skin comes into play. Be prepared that Bulgaria women to tease you to the point where it seems like mockery; she might seem super into you and then disappear. She is hot, then she’s cold.
Not fair, but still kind of fair, take it as a challenge!

Some Benefits to Dating Bulgarian Girls
Now that I have scared you a bit, what are some benefits of dating a Bulgarian lady?
For starters, they are awesome homemakers and they won’t mind spending some time in the kitchen to bake you some real homemade banitsa.
To them, this is more than finding the way to your heart through your stomach, it’s more like showing care (and showing off an awesome recipe).
You will not be expected to do the same, but when it comes to making reservations, ordering wine and paying when we eat out – that is an entirely different story.
They are faithful. No, but really, they ARE.
This is part of the reason why women here can’t handle open relationships well. Bulgarians are simply too committed to you for something like that (and also why jealousy is very popular here).
But they are truly wifey material when it comes to fidelity, and that’s nice of them, right?
They are also independent. Well, mostly. Your Bulgarian girlfriend enjoys you spoiling her and will probably shove you into that traditional male role of the breadwinner if you decide to make things serious, but don’t assume she can’t survive without you.
She can and she will, and if she doesn’t – be cautious. A girl that sees you as an ATM is probably not fun to be with.
For the rest (a.k.a. most Bulgarian girls), they will be your equal partner for the serious stuff and they do not particularly seek somebody to look after us.

Bulgarian women are special and you will be more than happy when you finally get to be with one. Treat her with respect, match her effort, and you stand a chance with some of the most striking women in Europe.
